Coordinated Calibration. Organized Equipment Records.
Calibration is the process of checking whether a medical device is measuring or functioning accurately by comparing it against an appropriate reference standard. For example, a BP monitor may display a reading that no longer reflects reality if the device is inaccurate — which can affect clinical decisions. EMC coordinates calibration through a competent service provider (EMC does not calibrate equipment directly unless qualified to do so) and manages the documentation and follow-up. Calibration, performance testing, validation, preventive maintenance, repair, equipment supply, installation and AMC/CMC are different activities and are not bundled together unless specifically agreed.

Scope
Certificates and technical reports are issued by the provider performing the work. Not every certificate is NABL-accredited — EMC confirms this per engagement.

- Why calibrate equipment that seems to be working fine?
- Working and being certified accurate are different things. Calibration provides a documented, verifiable accuracy record against a reference standard — important for both compliance and patient safety, since an inaccurate reading can affect clinical decisions.
- Does EMC calibrate the equipment itself?
- EMC coordinates calibration through a qualified service provider and does not calibrate equipment directly unless qualified to do so. EMC manages the identification, inventory, coordination, documentation and follow-up tracking around the process.
- Is every calibration certificate NABL-accredited?
- Not automatically — calibration, performance testing, validation and NABL-accredited certification are different things. EMC confirms certificate type per engagement rather than assuming every certificate is NABL-accredited.
